Sup guys, been a while.. Things are going good up here in Denver and I got the VW up to 400whp/424wtq then took it on a 5k mile vacation.. well anyway, I wanted some feedback on the new rig I am building to replace my ageing Athlon XP 2600+.. The idea is to start off with a nice strong workstation that I can slowly upgrade to a monster as various prices drop.. Remember I am not seeking gaming performance.. It will only run linux natively. I plan on doing alot of work in VM's and massive multitasking (multi-heads multi-inputs = multi-users)

The motherboard and cpu's are not going to be widely available until November or December so in the meantime I am ordering stuff I can use on my current shitbox.. I ordered the Lian case today, cant wait til it gets here! Finally I wont have a but ugly ass tower The rest of the stuff I can get a few blocks away at MicroCenter and get this, CHEAPER THAN NEWEGG!!! I already checked and they have the video card, harddrives, dvd burner, and powersupply for cheap enough that the cost of taxes is at least as much as newegg if not less in most cases.

You should get some Seagate Perpendecular drives, they already out perform the raptors so that would just be a waste of money.

Also DDR2 800 would be much better if not 1066. Gotta love the prices of ram right now!

ok so ive made some progress..

Scored me the Lian-Li V2100+ and added a pair of SilenX 14dba/32cfm 80mm fans
PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750W Quad SLI PSU
New Apple Keyboard
New Computer Desk
and a little extra ram and new quiet heatsink for existing board/cpu
and a 20x Samsung SATA DVD-RW since my last 2 lighton's have took a shit..

I learned 99% of my noise is coming from my nvidia card, must find a passive or quieter way to cool it before it goes in the livingroom..

All I will say is sweeet.

Looks good, I second the perpindicular drives, put those is raid0... if using vista get a large CF card to use for cache management... cheap and HUGE increases in performance....
