Unofficial/Official Modding Challenge 1 Year, 2 Months ago Karma: 3
For October, I am going to host a completely unofficial on the side competition.

I challenge the WLP audience to bring the most badass coolest mods in they can. Show off your computer, show off any peripheral or modded accessory.

I will run the tourny onsite, with more details as they come.

The prize will be a completely modded, handmade ultraportable PFsense box.

Pfsense is an advanced routing/firewall software solution. Google is your friend for more info.

Since this is unnoficial I will open this up to everyone including WLP staff(except myself, SciMan). A vote will be cast for the winner, and the PFsense box awarded.
Trust me, this is a handy LITTLE box to have around.

More details will come as they arrive, the box is still under construction, but it is SWEET.

Hardware Stats:

Intel Pentium 4 1.7ghz
512mb DDR Ram
30gb HD
2 X USB Ports
USB is used for CD/DVD use and keyboard input when needed.

Stats while running PFSense
with 20 *dummy* machines connected
CPU Usage: 1%
Ram: 16%
Disk 0%

*Dummy Machines where all downloading different torrent files, and set to refresh individual web pages.

Dimensions for this device

12 inches (H) by 16 inches (w) x 3 inches (D)

The unit features a built in display that has something very *special* about it.

I cannot emphasize enough that this was completely built from scratch.
I will just go ahead and say it, that I reserve the right to withhold this prize and offer it up again at the next Lan if no one brings a very impressive mod.
This means your CD tray doubling as a Drink holder DOES NOT COUNT!!!

Anyways, show some true modding skill, and you will get my award.

*side note*
While I originally built this box as a pfSense box, it has evolved into a truly versatile linux box as well. Ultimately what you do with it is your own business.

Does the case have to hold your gaming rig? My gaming rig's case is already modded and I want to do another for the comptetition, but i'd rather not just scrap my current modded rig.

Here is my submission:

Specs, Unimportant as its getting upgraded in november.. it gets the job done which is just to be a multimedia pc..

When rebuilt it will be:
Athalon XP 2600+ with UberQuiet FAN
Geforce 6800GT AGP
1GB RAM & 500GB Seagate SATA
350W PC Power & Cooling PSU
802.11N Wireless Card
Sony External USB DVD-RW w/standalone video burning ability
Soundblaster Audigy Platinum 5.1
Logitech Z5500 550W THX 5.1 Speakers
Running Ubuntu w/Elisa as the GUI and playing music/movies from my 1.5TB archive and Azureus w/RSS & XMPP Notification to download all my TV shows headlessly..
Philips ProntoPro NG TSU7500 Remote w/LCD to control everything with a few simple clicks..

I have all the parts, I am just using most of them as my main computer right now.. I am building me a new rig and then the media pc will inherit the old cpu/mbd/ram with a new quiet psu.. I do need a HDTV tho

note the Ubuntu sticker and cold cathode light.. the cathode back lights the front display.. it is sound sensitive, totally freaks people out when the thing starts dancing to the music its playing.. I have to Audio/Video baulns that convert composite video and stero to CAT5, after rewiring my apartments phone lines (cat5) I have my media center across the room with no visible wires running to the TV in a cubby above the fireplace..

Not bad Nayr,

Questions,
Does the radio withhold its original functionality? or has it been connected to the system?

It looks nice, I will say that much!

We will see what happens when the rest show up!

Also the PFsense box will NOT be shown to anyone prior to the WLP event, so no sneak peaks!!!

(even Drupi hasn't/will not have seen it)
