I've heard that many games and apps are working fine... which they should... but I also heard that Messenger crashes, which seems quite ironic.

Overall, though, how does it feel? WHY upgrade to it is basically what I'm trying to figure out... even if it works, is it better than XP??

truth be told the stuff that originally was supposed to come with Vista that I personally was looking forward to (mostly winFS) where later cut due to technical issues or because of delays.

This Rendition of Vista could have been released as a Service Pack to XP IMHO. But instead of doing that they release Windows Me 2.0 in a billion flavors and extremely DRM infested to boot.

the only reason I have even considered moving to Vista is for DirectX 10 but Cedega has said they will support it so my move to Linux is edging ever closer.

dude vista is a disaster...i'm not using it for obvious reasons but i'll just put it like this

want to play game? sorry

Most games play with default drivers. people with 8800 series nvidia have serious issues still...

want your own firewall? sorry

if your still trying to run a software firewall STFU and buy/build a router...

want your own virus scanner? sorry

AVG and avast! both have working virus protection in vista!

want to pay microsucks a yearly sub_script_ion for their firewall and scanner? ok

:_b_link__: Windows defender and windows firewall both are free and included as part of Vista and now XP.

want to run any programs install anything not reccomended by microsoft? sorry

Only applies to drivers. all drivers now are required to be digitally signed for Windows Vista. Actually XP attempts to require this they just made it uber tight with vista.

too many bugs they released it way too soon and it sucks.. wait a year or get the new linux OS and GUIs... or stick with xp or 2k.. good luck!

not many bugs left, was released 5 years to late for the rendition we got, and linux is still not for the mainstream user... I will agree for the most part stick with XP. Win2K is about to drop out of support in another year or so.

SuSE is pretty good. I been running it for a few years now. Cedega is pretty solid. Now this might have changed since that last time I used it but it lacked DirectX 9 support. So games like HL2 ran but lacked a lot of effects in DX8 mode.

Overall, though, how does it feel? WHY upgrade to it is basically what I'm trying to figure out... even if it works, is it better than XP??

Overall the feel isn't too bad. So far it seems solid. No crashing as of yet. Mainly its a graphical upgrade IMO. It looks great but a XP user won't gain much using Vista unless your running XP x64. Then you might like having some driver support for once. I do like the indexing service search. If you ever have used Google desktop this is just as good for searching for files. I don't know you only need to buy Windows every 5 years. So its not that big of a deal for me.
