I'm just curious if any of you are using it and what you think about it... I feel kind of out of the loop lately because of... stuff... and I need to get educated. I keep hearing about Ubuntu and other Linux OS's that have tried to provide a direct alternative to Vista...
thoughts?? inform the n00b!!

dude vista is a disaster...i'm not using it for obvious reasons but i'll just put it like this
want to play game? sorry want your own firewall? sorry want your own virus scanner? sorry want to pay microsucks a yearly sub_script_ion for their firewall and scanner? ok
want to run any programs install anything not reccomended by microsoft? sorry
too many bugs they released it way too soon and it sucks.. wait a year or get the new linux OS and GUIs... or stick with xp or 2k.. good luck!

I'm running Vista now with only a few Nvidia driver related issues. Avast! virus software works fine on Vista. Games work fine also. Not sure how your not able to play games since it didn't really break anything. Also I have tons of non-Microsoft related software that works fine.
BTW have you even tried Vista?

that's because you know wtf your doing man... I won't use vista due to a few software issues with real time development and the nvidia drivers.
I was on the technical beta for vista and I put my copy of Home Premium on my wifes computer without issue and she likes it...

Once Nvidia gets good drivers out there and the two apps that I uses once in a blue moon get support I won't see any difference compared to XP. Nvidia is the biggest problem out of all of this. A complete lack of options in the drivers. For the first time Nvidia has a better control panel in Linux then in Windows. They now force you to use the shitty web page looking panel thats completely worthless.

oh wells.... I still am planning to go to SuSE as my Full Time Operating system by the the end of the year... I need a Real time development environment for work related stuff and Vista unless I buy Ultimate Edition or Business Premium won't support the real time patch for Visual Studio. But I can get a Real Time Kernel for any flavor of linux i need...
