939 vs AM2 1 Year, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
I Finally have a job now. So, after I get my car, I would like to build another computer. I already have the case picked out, now I just have to decide between which socket to go with.

I am wondering if anyone has any information on the performance of either socket 939 or AM2. Should I just stick with 939 for now, and wait another year before going into the AM2 market, or is this a good time to go ahead and make that leap?

Also, if anyone has any input on what would be a good motherboard for the AM2 socket, please feel free to leave a suggestion.

This question is easy to answer. Go AM2! 939 is finally about dead unless your wanting a single core Athlon, Sempron, or some of the older Opterons (like me) still around. All the new stuff is coming to AM2 and AM2+ this year and next.

I was planning on upgrading my proc to the highest speed my motherboard allow for but no one has anymore high end dual cores on 939. I looked on Ebay and found a few but they wanted $200 more then what they were going for. If you upgrading go AM2.

Alright...so since you suggest going with AM2, the question is:
Which Processor?

Is this one worth the money: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103773
